The General Assembly is the highest judicatory of this church and represents in one body all the particular churches. It meets once a year at the place determined by the commissioners selected from the presbyteries, with representation being determined by membership of a presbytery.
The officers of the General Assembly shall be Moderator, Vice-Moderator, Stated Clerk, and Engrossing Clerk. Each must be elected by the General Assembly for specified terms. The Moderator and Vice-Moderator must be a certified Commissioner from a presbytery during each year of service.
In 1999, the General Assembly of the Cumberland Presbyterian in America established the position of Administrative Director for the National Church.
Rev. Dr. Lynne Herring was appointed to serve in this position. Rev. Dr. Herring is a 1996 graduate of The University of Alabama, Huntsville, Alabama, Memphis Theological Seminary, Memphis, Tennessee with the Master of Divinity degree; and in 1998, she received the Doctor of Ministry degree from United Theological Seminary, Dayton, Ohio. She pastors the Macedonia Cumberland Presbyterian in America, in Decatur, Alabama.
The General Assembly has the oversight and responsibility to:

Receive and decide all appeals, protests brought before it

Decide in all controversies respecting doctrine, discipline

Interpretation of the Constitution

Institute and oversee the agencies necessary in its work

Give its counsel

Review the records of the Synods, formulate budgets

Oversee the affairs of the whole church
